Emily

Meet Emily, a Central Station resident who enjoys the outdoors, baking and Diamond Dotz with her cats. Emily has Neurofibromatosis (NF) which is a rare genetic condition that causes benign tumors of the nerves and growths throughout the body. NF’s ability to grow anywhere can create problems and the need for various surgical removals. Emily also has Scoliosis. curvature of the spine, and Kyphosis, curvature of the lumbar or upper back.

Emily first found out about QUAD through Shriners Children Portland. Shortly after applying to QUAD housing she got a call about a vacant unit at Central Station Apartments and her name was next on the waitlist. Moving into her first apartment from her family home, Emily quickly realized the benefits of having her own space including “independence, peace and quiet.” Independence is important to Emily and her favorite part about living at QUAD. With supportive services from care staff and an apartment full of accessible features, Emily can maintain her her independence and continue to focus on the things she lives like cooking and spending time outside.

When asked for her perspective on life and what is important, Emily says that you only live once, and you just have to live life.
